Respiratory diseases caused by emissions account for 10.5 million deaths per year worldwide, there are few solutions!

We decided that in Northern Europe the obvious source of potential energy in winter is **wind** and in fact it is used regularly already to power heat pumps operating at coefficients of 3-4, providing three to four units of heat for every one of electricity. The problem with this though is that when there is no wind, we must turn to the power stations to make up for the shortfall. These high carbon elements are the most expensive electric generated. This of course affects the price of electricity and the cost of running heat pumps. We felt that there was quite considerable room for improvement.

We built two prototype wind turbines and our second machine provided us with the kind of result we were looking for. During a winter storm our machine was producing over three times more heat than could be generated electrically! This then became the basis for our design.

In 2021 Covid and lockdown struck, but as we emerged out of the pandemic, news of our technology had reached the higher echelons of wind turbine development. It became very clear that interest was not in the wind turbine but the heat generator we had designed and its relationship with a high temperature heat pump we were using in hybrid, to provide security of supply.

Earlier this year the board of H2oTurbines Ltd decided to make a strategic change, ending turbine development to concentrate on heat generator design for wind turbine manufacturers to fit into their machines. This was a blessing in disguise, removing many of the barriers we faced as wind turbine developers.

Our heat generator is smaller, lighter, and more sustainable than an electric generator. We can fit a slightly larger planetary gearbox which allows us to make about twice the amount of energy that the same sized electric machine could produce.

The design is centred around the use of **a highly inefficient** centrifugal pump. Proven to work with a wind turbine even outside of a wind resource, its operation is almost silent and because we cascade the operation of the pumps, we can vary the load to match wind speeds giving a further advantage against electricity production.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
