Ableism is the systemic disregard of disabled people and their needs. This can be seen in the form of ramps that, despite meeting building regulations, are not fit for purpose as they are too steep for wheelchair users to self-propel up them. It can be seen in headlines that use inappropriate language to describe disabled people, using terms such as "wheelchair bound" or "suffering from autism". It could be carpets that are poorly implemented to create disorientating patterns that become inaccessible to people with sensory processing issues. It is also processes or procedures in the workplace that are complicated and convoluted that are difficult for anyone to use but become impossible to neurodivergent people who process information differently.

Dismantle initiative uses unique principles derived from anti-ableism research to promote proactively inclusive work environments via consultancy and training. We allow participants to explore ableism, learn to identify it, and develop creative solutions to dismantle it. This allows us to pass the mantle of proactive inclusion to our participants. We highlight the benefits of hiring disabled talent and how to retain disabled staff through proactive, anti-ableist inclusion. Participants can identify how anti-ableism not only improves the wellbeing of disabled staff but also non-disabled staff through a change in perception of disability. Disability is no longer seen as a negative attribute.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
