monitoring, academic research and seismic event monitoring. Although the mechanics of the
systems used are similar, the way data is processed &amp;amp; formatted has evolved independently.
‘Life of Field’ (LoF) systems are semi-permanent seismic receiver arrays used to acquire
frequent 3D surveys over a reservoir. Such data are key to providing public accountability
(e.g. BP’s Macondo, fracking), understanding more about reservoirs for more efficient
hydrocarbon depletion and alerting operators of any unusual events (e.g. seismic activity).
Similar requirements apply to industrial microseismic monitoring (i.e. passive observation and
use of small-scale seismic activity).
Hence a need to merge these technologies and Data Sets for multi-purpose use has appeared
and currently a statutory requirement in many countries (including the UK) exists for the data
to be deposited into a national archive in a standard format developed by the Society of
Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) for data exchange.
However, ways of storing the data acquired (circa 1.5TB/day/reservoir), extracting/reporting
information in the correct SEG format in near real time, managing the data to suit processing
needs and keeping the data transportable have not yet been fully developed. Also, seismic data
is complex and prone to errors/data loss during its lifecycle, making currently available large
data streaming solutions difficult to use.
To address these issues, Troika aims to develop a modular solution that automatically
evaluates seismic events, organises these large volumes of data into discrete records,
reformats the data, allowing for conventional seismic data processing and data storage in
transportable magnetic tape or any other future media whilst ensuring constant quality control.
Post R&amp;amp;D, Troika expects &amp;pound;3.5M increased revenue in the next 5 years, which would increase
exponentially due to growing demand.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
