We have designed a concept (that needs further development) of a household friendly, easy to use and aesthetically pleasing capsule that compresses flexible plastic by 400% without any complicated moving parts.

The capsule can be stored on the tabletop, mounted inside a cupboard, fixed to a door, or kept outside and features clear iconography that informs the user which plastics can be recycled.

The capsule features an innovative system to empty the compressed contents into a bag which can then be collected curbside.

The capsule features easy to read, large icons to display which materials are suitable for recycling, if the user is unsure we have added an easy to use QR code and website URL which could be linked to a simple webpage explaining in more detail, or providing further examples of suitable materials to collect. The design also features two transparent windows either side of the collector to indicate how full the unit is.

LUMA have focused on keeping the part and complexity down as much as possible, to keep the unit price below £3 to make it affordable.

The capsule is made from recycled plastics and at end of life the entire product can also be recycled.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
