Arkivum specialises in providing a fully managed service for the long-term retention and access to digital data with a guarantee of 100% data integrity. Arkivum is active in sectors including media, construction, pharmaceuticals, engineering and others where there is the need to have absolute confidence that valuable data can be accessed in the future. Arkivum is unique in its offer of guaranteed data integrity and accessibility. Preservation best practice is followed: multiple copies of data are stored in multiple locations, migrated frequently to address technical obsolescence, and proactively checked and repaired to guard against the inevitable failure modes of today's complex IT storage technologies. Whilst other cloud providers focus on their services for the creation or short-term backup of data, Arkivum takes a ground-up approach to the challenges of long-term data retention. Our online data-tape libraries hosted in secure data centres allow us to deliver a trusted, secure, low-cost, green and fast-access service. There is strong interest in our archive service and although Arkivum was only started in 2011 we already have a live service and customers signed up. We are also seeing interest from several potential customers who understand the value of the service, but are unable to sign-up due to restrictions on data security that prevent it from leaving their organisation. Therefore we are considering adding a new service offering where we install and manage an archive service on the customer site. This project is to allow us to explore, quantify, and develop a plat to target and exploit the market for in-house archive service provision.
