With its patented technology, Nyfasi Deluxe Detangler evenly coats textured hair with hair care treatment. The targetted lubrication of tangles results in easy detangling, saving up to 30 minutes and offering a great experience. The Deluxe Detangler was developed in collaboration with 50 individuals, 76% of whom said they would purchase the product once commercialised. The Deluxe Detangler is made of three parts, a cover with a soft touch, a reservoir comb and a roller. This project aims to design the cover and comb for manufacturability, develop the three injection moulding tools and determine the ideal process and material to achieve the soft touch on the cover. To finish we will produce a small batch to initiate market validation and carry out a user experience and brand perception study. The Deluxe Detangler addresses a problem faced by millions of individuals with afro-textured hair. Applying conditioner and detangling textured hair can take more than 50 minutes. The process requires parting the hair into sections, applying treatment, distributing it and combing it to detangle. This complex and painful hair care regimen often breaks women's hair confidence and damages their health, as many refrain from being physically active to avoid caring for their hair. Current products on the market, such as typical detanglers and scalp applicators, are not suited for the purpose, and none offer its benefits. I was inspired to invent the Deluxe Detangler following my experience as an au pair caring for a five-year-old black girl named Hazel. Despite Hazel's mother's efforts, Hazel would cry whenever her mother applied conditioner to her hair. I wanted to redefine hair care as a moment when Hazel bonds with her mother. Nyfasi aims to bring joy to the hair care experience of individuals with textured hair and empower them to embrace their hair and live healthy lives. It also aims to set young people on a path to living meaningful and joyful lives by donating 5% of its profit to coach young individuals. I trained as a physicist and worked as a research engineer in the field of printed electronics for six years. I worked on several multidisciplinary projects contributing to two patents. My leadership in innovation was rewarded with the Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellowship and my nomination among the top 50 Women in Engineering and The Manufacturer Top 100\.
