Delayed eyes-on response to emergency situations in the UK risks the safety of individuals, compromises evidence/witnesses, and increases property damage, along with wasting first responders' time/resources/person-power arriving on scene. The average police, ambulance, and fire and rescue response times to calls has increased. Ambulance delays put patients at risk of harm and further condition deterioration and increase stress to NHS staff. Upping response time by 10% lowers the crime clearance rate by 4.7 percentage-points. Delayed responses add 13 fire related fatalities, 65 road-traffic-collision deaths, and £85M in fire damage annually.

ED is developing revolutionary self-charging Drone-In-A-Box technology to facilitate eyes-on contact in emergency situations and transmit video/audio feed to first responder control centres. The Drone-As-First-Responder (DAFR) will be able to fly autonomously in all weather conditions and will feature human-independent vertical take-off/landing and recharging.

ED's solution will be unique in the UK and, as concerns grow about Chinese produced UAVs, the global public safety UAV market (currently £900M) will expand with public service agencies demanding domestically or OECD-produced devices.

The project aligns with the UK's Build Back Better plan to use regulation to unlock cutting-edge technologies such as drones and autonomous vehicles, which is estimated to bring £14.1B uplift in the Public and Defence/Health and Education sectors. Additionally, the project's objectives represent a cost-effective boost to Pillar 4: Missions & Technologies of the government's Innovation Strategy, which strives to stimulate innovation to tackle major challenges faced by the UK and the world and drive capability in key technologies.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
