Developing novel application methods.</ns2:title><ns2:status>Closed</ns2:status><ns2:grantCategory>Grant for R&D</ns2:grantCategory><ns2:leadFunder>Innovate UK</ns2:leadFunder><ns2:abstractText>BunkerTrace reinvents the transport fuel sector by employing cutting-edge science and technology of biomarkers and blockchain to trace fuel from well-to-wake. We link the physical and the digital to provide complete traceability around the fuel's origin, sustainability and integrity across the supply chain, an essential step to decarbonising the shipping sector by assuring reliability, quality control, safety and sustainability of the new fuels entering the market.

The project objective is to further develop our product to provide accurate, traceable, and verifiable documentation and tracing of the green fuels supply chain from end-to-end. This ensures the fuels taken up in the maritime industry have a positive environmental impact in a life cycle perspective. A major component to completing this project is researching and developing the application methods of our markers in the new fuels entering the market such as various types of biofuels, bio-methanol, bio-LNG, power-to-x hydrocarbons, and green ammonia.

This product will help ensure that the fuels used in the maritime industry have a positive environmental impact in a life cycle perspective and provides us with the opportunity to step away from traditional methods to provide innovative solutions for challenges brought by climate change and address the demand for sustainable drop-in fuels as a new short-term solution for propulsion. Our goal is to use engineering biology techniques to increase trust in the transportation network while minimizing the environmental effects of shipping. These solutions must be commercially viable, environmentally friendly and enable traceability for the uptake of zero-emission fuels.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
