The project will be led by Mimica, supported by Fiorani, ABP and Aarhus University.

Globally, a third of food produced is wasted, with 70% still safe for consumption. Waste along the supply chain is a large economic burden. A major issue is confusing & overcautious expiry dates, which leads to edible food being thrown away.

Bump is a patented expiry label that turns bumpy when food/drinks spoil, based on actual temperature conditions. It provides an accurate, real-time indication of the product’s freshness and is a game-changer in food industry sustainability and food education.

Building on the development of a bottle cap integration, this Project will see Bump adapted to be universally compatible with various packaging formats through integration into Fiorani and ABP products and current manufacturing processes. Aarhus University will conduct consumer behaviour change & food waste research, and a Life Cycle Assessment (net impact study) to show the environmental benefits of integrating Bump into packaged foods.

The project will accelerate food waste reduction by preparing Bump to rapidly scale with other companies after the project. It will overcome low consumer trust in the current fixed date system, enhance food transparency and build a consumer-centric food system.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
