In their lifetime, a menstruator will use over 11,000 disposable menstrual products, and in a year, disposal of these products in the UK contributes to around 200,000 tonnes of waste. Menstrual cups drastically eliminate this waste down to virtually nothing, as they are estimated to last at least 5 years and so in a lifetime a menstruator will likely use no more than 10. Aside from the gigantic positive environmental impact, the cup can also overcome some of the physical problems that disposable products cause. For example, menstrual cups do not cause vaginal dryness and have virtually no chance of getting Toxic Shock Syndrome like tampons can, they can be worn for a maximum of up to 12 hours and thus do not need to be changed as often and therefore don't disrupt the user's day and sleep as much as a tampon or a pad.

This project seeks to make switching to the menstrual cup a more appealing option to menstruators. Eleria does this by eliminating the two main barriers and pain points found with using the menstrual cup in daily life: cleaning and changing it in public toilets and sterilising in shared living spaces. Our portable period cup cleaning and sterilising case is easy to use, discreet, and quicker!

Our streamlined solution means users can change and clean their cup in public quickly and discreetly without the need to leave the stall. Our product is a watertight solution that the user can opt to fill up prior to leaving their house or just before entering the stall. When it's time to change the cup, place it in the case, close the lid and lightly shake to allow the water to move around and clean the cup. Empty the water out into the toilet through the funnel end and then reinsert the cup.

We have eliminated the need for users to boil their cup in a pan on the hob for 15 minutes every time they wish to sterilise it. Now, the cup can be placed in the case, filled with water, and microwaved for 3 minutes to sterilise.

Save time, money, and the planet with Eleria.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
