A significant consequence of this approach has been the needless overhauling of track infrastructure, such as track lowering or bridge raising, to adhere to these standards. The CODES project seeks to challenge and transform this status quo.

With CODES, rail gradient designs can be tested and validated in real-world conditions at the GCRE facility, right on site. This hands-on approach provides invaluable data, offering a clearer picture of a design's safety and performance metrics. The benefits are manifold:
