The Fast Cat is manufactured with a design that utilises a lightweight composite hull. Many traditional small fishing vessels are constructed using steel hulls. Through this feasibility study, G Smyth Boats are seeking to explore the current Atlantic Canada inshore commercial fishing market to gain the information needed to create a new export trading route.

G Smyth Boats will focus on achieving two main project outcomes. These are the development of a product development strategy and a market entry strategy. Each project focus will be delivered through the support of subcontractors who will analyse of the current state and needs of the Atlantic Canada inshore fishing fleet and support with developing relationships with key local businesses and industry figures. Once completed, the product development and market entry strategies will enable G Smyth Boats to adapt and tailor the Fast Cat to suit the unique needs of the market.

The Fast Cat is the latest innovation of traditional small fishing vessels from G Smyth Boats. The non-traditional lightweight composite hull enables improved wave management and water entry, with the Fast Cat's engine and propulsion system resulting in an innovative vessel that increases operational efficiency, simultaneously using less fuel while increasing operating speeds. The Fast Cat's design is fully customisable, enabling increased usability and adaptability for the specific needs of the user. This has the added impact of increasing the Fast Cat's applicability and functions which includes commercial fishing, leisure activities and offshore servicing.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
