Symptoms include persistent jaw pain, migraines, and neck pain and can significantly impact quality of life. Women are affected far more often than men, and many also grind or clench their teeth (bruxism), intensifying jaw strain and preventing long-term relief. Current care is fragmented: one patient might receive a mouthguard, another a leaflet on jaw exercises, a third a recommendation to &amp;quot;stress less&amp;quot;. Without continuous, trustworthy guidance, symptoms flare, frustration rises and costly repeat appointments follow.

JawSense is creating a smartphone app that places structured, evidence-based self-care in the palm of a patient's hand. After a short onboarding questionnaire, the app suggests a personalised mix of jaw-mobility drills, posture checks, self-care routines, mindfulness-based stress &amp;amp; pain management tools and sleep-hygiene tips. Users log pain levels, triggers such as stress or late-afternoon caffeine, and relief strategies; the app's analytics engine then surfaces patterns - for example, a link between caffeine after 3 p.m. and next-morning jaw stiffness - and nudges the user toward preventative actions. A forthcoming export feature will condense logs and analytics into a single PDF, helping dentists or physiotherapists tailor follow-up care.

During this feasibility study we will invite fifty adults, mostly women, to use JawSense for at least eight weeks. We will track how often they use the app, which features they value most and how clinicians react to the exported reports. Although our team is also developing a wearable device that delivers biofeedback during bruxism episodes, that hardware is not part of this study; we are focusing solely on validating the app's ability to deliver practical, day-to-day support.

All results - engagement statistics, user interviews and clinician feedback - will be published without personal identifiers. By showing that a carefully designed digital companion can fit into daily life and complement professional care, we aim to lay the groundwork for larger trials and, ultimately, NHS availability. Our vision is simple: give every person with jaw pain a reliable, research-backed tool they can trust, whenever and wherever symptoms strike.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
