A UCL study of over 16,000 secondary students found that those with the greatest confidence in their own ability were 18% more likely to achieve 5 good GCSE passes and on average gained 41 points more in their GCSEs compared to similar ability but less confident students. That is the equivalent of achieving 6 C grades rather than six D grades.

So, for something that is of such critical importance to the outcomes of student it is surprising that we do not measure a student's own confidence in their knowledge and understanding.

The recent Covid-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdown has made this an even bigger issue with students across the UK missing out on significant work, in particular students in years 10 and 12 who will be sitting exams next year but have had no face to face contact with teachers for what could be more than a third of a school year.

Our confidence app addresses this shortcoming. Students will now be able to score themselves against every subject and highlight areas of the curriculum where they are not yet confident. This will give teachers a huge insight into where they need to focus extra lessons and support for students so that they can help to develop confidence and enable students to achieve the results that reflect their ability.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
