More precisely to concentrate the wind onto their vanes locally. With a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine it would be economically senseless to build a Funnel (or shroud) around the wind vanes because of the enormity and complexity of such a device.

With a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (V.A.W.T.) however, such a Wind Accelerating Funnel attachment is eminently viable. By deflecting increased wind flow onto the wind vanes such a Funnel would increase the energy yield of a V.A.W.T. right across the Wind Speed Spectrum. The start up of rotation would be possible on lighter actual wind speeds. The Annual Energy Yield of a V.A.W.T. combined with a Wind Acceleration Funnel will be significantly enhanced above current levels.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
