currently available are an eyesore that detract from the property's value. The insurance sector
do not like the current technology because it relies too much on human intervention and may
not be deployed. Thus a normally operated door (operates and looks like any standard exterior
door) that provides flood protection up to a pre-determined height (max 900mm) is required.
The door will be BSI Kitemark accredited and together with air bricks and sewer pipe
protection will provide a BSI Kitemarked flood proof property. The solutions work for all
building types.
The flood control door will be unique in that it will provide safety features that prevent the
door being opened in the presence of flood water and because it will also allow the water to
enter the building above the predetermined level to ensure the structural integrity of the
building.
This means the flood control door MUST be deployed as part of a solution that combines
resistance and resilience measures in order to achieve our overall BSI &amp;quot;Flood Proof Property&amp;quot;
concept.
Flood resilience measures will be included in our overall system design that will enable
people to return to their homes and businesses in days or weeks rather than the months or
