We believe this is possible by empowering brands to participate in the circular economy and divest from linear take-make-waste model.

Madeby's approach focuses on creating Digital IDs for products, which power an ecosystem of circularity, sustainability and regulatory services. With an API-first approach, the ecosystem we are building enables new ways to create revenues from circular models, engage customers, and increase trust.

Our goal is to digitise a billion products by 2030, starting from fashion and expanding to other industries. We aspire to be a measurable contributor to achieving Net Zero AND responsible economic growth in the UK.

£21tn worth of retail goods hit the market globally in 2022\. That is a staggering amount of new products: but only 8.6% get recycled and used again. Fashion in particular has doubled sales over the past 15 years, while the number of times an item is worn has fallen by 40%. On average, most clothes are thrown away just after 7-10 wears. After disposal, under 1% are actually used to make new clothes.

This linear model is responsible for 1.2 billion tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission per year. To meet the 1.5°C pathway targeted by the Paris Agreement, fashion needs a 50% reduction in emission.

To achieve this, a seismic change from linear to circular models such as repair, resale or rental is required: if the average number of times a garment is worn were doubled, GHG emissions would decrease by 44%.

As promising as circularity is for the environment, consumers and business--- fashion is struggling to harness its potential. The industry still lacks solutions to manage products throughout their lifecycle.

This project allows Madeby to help fashion companies by:

1. Developing the infrastructure needed to create Digital IDs for their products, to which a variety of product and sustainability data can be attached securely, as well as sharing that data with circularity partners in a safe and controlled manner
2. Creating an app that allows companies, consumers and stakeholders, including regulators, to access the Digital ID via QR code

Demonstrating these data flows are possible and feasible for companies of different sizes will prove the case for product digitalisation to support scaling circular business models, and make them accessible also to small businesses.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
