Current therapies are ineffective. Satiety-inducing food ingredients represent an effective strategy to combat obesity and would have a large potential market. High protein diets reduce food intake and reduce body weight, but are difficult to adhere to. The amino acids generated in the gut by protein digestion act in the distal intestine to stimulate the release of satiety-inducing gut hormones, which signal to the brain to inhibit appetite. This project aims to encapsulate amino acids to allow delivery to the distal intestine to reduce food intake. Such encapsulated amino acids represent novel ingredients for functional foods designed to prevent and treat obesity.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
