Two leading vessel operators, Stena and Irish Ferries provide a valuable service transiting passengers and goods on this route daily. Both are committed to the continued delivery of this service but are conscious of the environmental footprint of their operations and the need to meet both UK and EU emission reduction targets.

Stena has already undertaken some work which suggested that methanol is a promising sustainable marine fuel for Ro/Ro vessels. This feasibility study will seek to validate that assessment and pitch methanol against other candidate fuels whilst simultaneously exploring the potential for methanol bunkering and production at each end of the green shipping corridor.

Furthermore, an economic and environmental study will be completed to determine whether the green shipping corridor fulfils its aim to reduce the overall GHG emissions along the corridor and does so in an economically feasible manner.

The consortium brings together the critical actors across the proposed green shipping corridor Stena Line, Irish Ferries and the Ports of Dublin and Holyhead alongside technical expertise on vessel and landside decarbonise from Ricardo, EDF Energy R&amp;amp;D UK and Maynooth University.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
