Our first product, The Probate Wizard, is a “do it yourself” probate assistant (probate is the legal process that takes place after death). The Probate Wizard is accessed through our website, www.thelawwizard.com. For consumers who wish to bypass a solicitor or other probate professional, it offers an easy and reliable way to conduct the probate process. The aim of our project is to analyse the potential for integrating professional probate services with The Probate Wizard, offering a more comprehensive service and better access to professional legal support. The system will enable users of The Probate Wizard to connect with probate professionals, such as solicitors, accountants and independent financial advisers. For these professionals, the system will add value to their existing probate services and offer new and better ways to market to – and connect with – potential clients. The project will benefit the public as it will improve access to legal services. In particular, it will make it easier for the public to perform the probate process online with professional support. Probate is a common and vital process, and members of the public often do not know where to start. By marrying a unique self-service tool with professional expertise, our project will service the increasing demands for a more convenient, cost-effective probate solution. Beyond probate, the project will indicate whether such a system has a role to play in improving access to legal services in other areas of law.
