This work-from-home desk, made from UK-grown timber, will give consumers of mid-price furniture a climate-conscious alternative to 'fast' furniture. Using innovative and intelligent craft-led joinery, it will combine the quality and longevity of handcrafted furniture with the accessible price point and convenience of self-assembly. The 20-week project will grow Hyrst's social-enterprise manufacturing model, partnering prisoners at HMP Warren Hill's woodshop with highly skilled furniture makers. The project will include the production of a short film documenting the desk's development and its positive environmental and social impact.
