10069921Development and Launch of Floop Android AppClosedCollaborative R&DInnovate UK**Project Overview** In 2022 Floop successfully launched a groundbreaking mobile app to the App Store for iPhone. Floop is designed to track the carbon footprint of food and help users combat climate change. To ensure that we can reach as many people as possible, this project aims to expand the Floop app to smartphone owners using Android-powered devices. This project aims to: * Re-design the app using Android-specific design components * Develop the code in an Android-specific language * Launch the app to Google Play for download to Android devices * Create the first-of-its-kind app for Android **Background** The Floop app leverages technology to track the carbon footprint of meals, empowering individuals with the information they need to make environmentally responsible decisions. Our dedicated team is driven by a shared passion for creating a more sustainable food system and working towards a better future. Floop differs from other food-related apps, like fitness trackers and calorie counters, by providing research-based climate data about ingredients in a user-friendly format. As a result, we believe Floop to be the first mobile app of its kind. The app allows users to calculate the carbon footprint of their meals. It presents the greenhouse gas (CO2e) emissions of food items in easy-to-understand real-life measurements, such as miles driven in a car. Users can also browse and try recipes that promote sustainable food choices while tracking the carbon footprint of their meals over the week. The app connects users to sustainably-focused businesses via in-app ad placements and promoted recipes. Users can also browse offers and information from British food, drink and lifestyle brands. The launch of Floop to the App Store captured a significant portion of the smartphone market due to 52% of UK smartphone users having iPhones. Launching an Android-compatible app will enable an additional 47.4% of smartphone users in the UK to access Floop and discover how to make more sustainable food choices. **Key objectives** * Update designs for the Floop app using Google Material components for Android applications * Update the ingredient database for use in the Android app * Develop a native Android app * Carry out user testing with Android device-owning users * Launch Android app to Google Play, making Floop available to 99.4% of smartphone owners
