It will be the first step towards establishing a creative design and engineering business – the first of its kind that will specialise in the use of composite materials and other high-tech lightweight materials. The MultiRack takes elements of a traditional bike rack and progresses it beyond recognition into a multi-functional lifestyle product. Fitted to the rear of the vehicle it facilitates the carrying of sports and leisure equipment including bikes, skis, snowboards, surfboards and luggage cases. It uses modular design and carbon fibre to create an entirely new form factor and a range of functions unique to automotive accessory design, and comes as a result of 20-years combined experience in the automotive industry.
The grant funds are required to complete a phase of ‘testing and development’ that is crucial to the success of the product. This will validate the structural and functional elements of the MultiRack design as a proof of concept and will result in a series of controlled load tests and official safety certification to government regulations. The project will also include a process of research and development into composites materials. We will draw upon the specialist knowledge of high tech manufacturing in the UK, which we will supplement with our own creative thinking. This will aid the development of a lighter and more cost effective product that will ultimately be more competitive. We currently use a number of suppliers in the UK for prototyping purposes and look to broaden our range of contact and keep all our production UK based.
Once the grant project is complete we will be perfectly positioned to the explore market
potential and develop further elements of product. All product development will feed directly
back to the growth of our unique business proposition in the UK.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
