alike, and student support officers from the UAE cite research skills and language as major
barriers (1) to the education and progress of Middle Eastern students. There are a number of
search engines that can be used for research such as Google and Bing, that are owned and
managed by large organisations with enormous resources at their disposal; however they’re
focused on the mass market and at present do not serve the niche we have identified.
Currently searches conducted by students require a manual intervention so that queries raised
are then actioned by an individual at the backend. Our solution is to provide a semantic search
engine tailored for this market that provides a full Arabic translation of the extract or abstract
of the retrieved document.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
