The project is led by IRIS Automation Limited (IRIS), a UK SME specializing in industrial inspection and automation technologies.

This initiative enhances the applicant's existing industrial inspection computer vision system, that uses patented deep learning algorithms and has achieved superior defect detection accuracy. While effective, the system occasionally flags defects that do not necessitate discarding the product.

The introduction of AR enables a more nuanced approach to quality assessment. This component will work in combination with our computer vision system to visually pinpoint defects on the production line, thereby providing operators with immediate, actionable information. This real-time visual feedback is a game-changer, drastically reducing 'No Fault Found' errors, a frequent source of inefficiency in manufacturing. It empowers operators to make prompt, informed decisions about the severity and necessary actions for each detected defect, thereby enhancing production continuity and increasing overall operational efficiency.

SmartVision\_AR also utilizes its AR interface to project instructions and manuals directly onto production line components. This is particularly beneficial for routine operations, maintenance, and the seamless continuation of production processes. An added advantage is its role in workforce training, where it significantly reduces the learning curve for new workers, integrating them more efficiently and effectively into the production environment. A distinctive feature of SmartVision\_AR is the integration of real-time remote collaboration capabilities through the AR interface. This enables instant access to technical support, maintenance guidance, or expert advice from afar, fostering a collaborative and informed decision-making environment.

Addressing the challenge of new customer acquisitions and the provision of custom solutions, often associated with high time and cost implications especially for SMEs such as IRIS, SmartVision AR will also incorporate transfer learning within its AI computer vision algorithms. This feature significantly boosts the system's adaptability, expediting its customization to diverse production lines and environments. The AR interface will be specifically designed to further enrich the system's learning capabilities, as operators will be able to highlight instances where performance falls short of expectations. These inputs become valuable training samples, continuously enhancing the AI algorithms.

SmartVision\_AR is subject to objective and rigorous pilot testing, leveraging access to IRIS owned equipment (mock production line) and current clients.
