The purpose is to provide a realistic environment that represents the IT struggles that a small to medium size company faces. Even if the organisation is using the latest, fully patched and maintained technologies, it is often either the mis-management or mis-configuration of an environment that leads to the compromise of its data. System administrators may take short-cuts, or are not aware of the latest threats, or too overworked to implement changes or solutions securely. All these situations may only result in small mistakes, but lead to devastating InfoSec consequences. Using the HackEire environment will allow those interested in information security to learn how an attacker can compromise a business computer systems using both exploits and utilising system mis-configurations. Thus providing them with a hands-on mechanism to learn how to defend against such attacks.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
