Our glasses are used in the developing world to enable individuals who otherwise lack access to conventional glasses to correct their own vision. We have also launched the world’s first adjustable reading glasses, where adjustability allows a user to choose their focus distance to suit whatever task they wish to do.
Our SlideLens technology works by having two optical lens elements that slide across each other to produce a change in power. Each optical element has a complex freeform shape on the surface that, when combined, produce an overall single power when looking through the lens.
Our first-generation product using SlideLens technology has recently been launched and has been well-received by customers. It has also received coverage by international news organisations and a nomination for a prestigious industry award.
In this project we propose creating a new self-adjustable lens unit that improves on the current SlideLens technology and will feature considerably-reduced thickness, lower weight, superior optical performance and will look closer to conventional spectacle lenses than the current state of the art. The new unit will also significantly reduce costs, something that is particularly important for use of our glasses in the developing world. The associated newly generated knowhow, processes and optical design techniques will form the basis of a lens technology platform that can be adapted for a number of applications and markets and help the company open new opportunities and reach a wider range of consumers. Creation of this technology will accelerate growth of our business and help us meet the needs of an expanded set of customers who will benefit from the unique functionality of our product.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
