In 2022, construction output in the UK was valued at £204B/year. The component accounting for over 50% of construction project costs is temporary works, predominantly scaffolding. Industry efficacy is undermined by over 90% of UK projects running over budget or schedule, and in 57% of cases, this overrun is due to poor scope. In 2023, poor risk management resulted in 37-56% of construction contractors globally experiencing overruns of over 20%. A prominent local example is the government contract for the Elizabeth Tower refurbishment, a majority temporary works contract that exceeded its budget by 176%. Poor scoping of temporary works exacerbates construction labour shortages and forces most projects over schedule. Over the next ten years, the industry will struggle to meet the demands of the £700B-£775B planned government critical infrastructure and affordable housing spending.

To address this issue, Scaffoldbid is developing its Construction Scoping Solution, a cutting-edge SaaS scaffolding platform that reduces project overspending through data-led scoping suggestions and referencing proven scaffold designs. Using Scaffoldbid's solution will enable companies to reduce the number of scaffolding projects that exceed the budget or schedule by over 30%. By instantly matching a project's scope to the platform's design archive, Scaffoldbid can save users days or weeks spent retrieving initial scaffold drawings and identifying issues. Scaffoldbid's solution enables more accurate risk mitigation and reduces project overspending by 8-10%. Scaffoldbid's solution will also boost the national construction industry's output efficiency and reduce its carbon emissions (1.7MT annually) by enhancing construction productivity, minimising project overruns and reducing machinery use.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
