Compared with solar photovoltaic, solar heat has:

3 times higher efficiency with collectors reaching an efficiency of 70 -- 80%

3 times less space needed for rooftops and on-ground installations

3+ times cheaper energy storage, often integrated in the system

However, the adaption of solar thermal applications, leaves room for improvement. There is a need for new and innovative ways of combining Senergy thermal panels with and digital technology to (1) Improve the delivery of affordable heat energy (2) Validate the carbon efficiency (3) Provide accurate financial data to inform decision making (4) strengthen solar thermal's position in the future renewable energy mix.

Senergy's innovative solar thermal panels have the opportunity to provide the cheapest and cleanest on-site space and water heating technology (Based on modelling completed by the Energy System Catapult). Integrating the Senergy panels both architecturally and digitally provides the opportunity to reduce the cost of delivering solar thermal energy to £0.03-£0.06 per kw/h to compete with gas and oil. The low-cost, low-carbon Senergy panels have the potential to overcome the barriers to widespread adoption of solar thermal.

The business has secured their manufacturing supply chain and purchased tooling with first full production and assembly commenced. The business has identified the opportunity to bring to market a retrofit heating solution that minimises upfront investment but can be replicated, financed and rolled out across their target customers housing stock and into the private sector.

Using evidence based design the project team will engage with their entire supply chain and the occupants of a living lab home and provide a seamless journey for them to make the decision to upgrade with Senergy panels. The most promising technical measures will be identified for reducing the cost of heat of solar thermal systems alongside the accompanying, non-technical measures to strengthen solar thermal's position in the future renewable energy mix.

This project will assess the use of data to reduce the purchase price of solar thermal systems with emphasis on the identification and reduction of post-production cost drivers and seek to optimise the use of digitalisation to breakdown existing barriers ensuring mass market adoption.

Futhermore, the project will determine the potential to pursue and test a HEATING AS A SERVICE Business Model.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
