The research will involve an investigation of video editing, programming and artificial intelligence software to creatively recut live footage so that the transition between 'real' and 'digital' is blurred.

The live stream will offer direct opportunities for audiences to directly influence the narrative, both physically by visiting the streaming location and digitally, through the comments section.

Robert has previously carried out a number of innovative live stream projects, through his production company 73 Degree Films, including a self-funded reality show where he watched the same film 100 times in a row. Most recently he produced the world's first Mystery Box Store, a 'live game show' pop-up in Wrexham City Centre. The show lasted just 3.5 hours due to its popularity.

The R&D project will be split into 2 phases:

Phase 1:

A multi camera live stream will broadcast continuously for a week inside a defined, easy to access location. The stream will feature a central character living and working at the location. Viewers will be able to interact using online tools such as the chat function, or in real-life by visiting or participating in an activity at the location.

Phase 2:

At the end of this week a combination of editing and programming scripts will seamlessly continue the stream indefinitely in a serialised format, by creatively recutting the existing footage from the previous week. Additional software will be used to create a score, new dialogue and other elements where possible.

What makes this idea innovative?

So far live streams that utilise these type of tools have been mostly animated. This project is proposing to seamlessly blend and re-cut real footage instead. If this is possible, it has implications for the creative industries and opens up a range of monetizable creative possibilities. The live stream sector is worth a huge amount of money to the UK economy and shows no signs of slowing down. Projects such as this will help to keep pushing for innovation and supporting UK creators and companies directly.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
