These events, which often peak after extended growing seasons in autumn and winter, disrupt coastal ecosystems, hinder tourism, damage infrastructure, and strain marine-dependent economies. They alter marine biodiversity and ecosystems long-term, while also generating substantial environmental and financial costs.

This project aims to provide coastal communities, environmental managers, and industry stakeholders with a proactive, data-driven tool to anticipate and respond to these events more effectively.

Flowmoco, a Cornwall-based software agency specialising in scalable, cloud-native marine technology solutions, is developing a next-generation digital platform to forecast biomass detachment events. By leveraging Earth Observation (EO) data, satellite-derived marine and meteorological products, and advanced AI/ML modelling, the platform transforms complex geospatial data into actionable intelligence.

Key features include:

* **Automated detection and growth monitoring** of macroalgae across wide coastal areas using satellite time-series and bespoke classification algorithms.
* **Predictive modelling** of high-impact detachment scenarios based on the interplay of oceanographic and weather patterns, using ensemble forecasting and feature analysis.

This platform provides early warning capabilities that can support better planning, response, and mitigation strategies. It unlocks insights traditionally too complex or costly to derive, helping protect ecosystems, reduce cleanup costs, and maintain the viability of tourism and fisheries.

Building on the success of the _My Coast Platform_, which delivers real-time coastal safety data, this new initiative extends Flowmoco's proven expertise into marine biomass forecasting---empowering stakeholders with the foresight needed to adapt to a changing coastal landscape.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
