Ironically, to haul empty wagons requires over 60% of the energy of hauling full wagons, despite the weight being reduced by 70%.

The greatest improvements will be seen on empty aggregate wagons and partially full intermodal wagons. There will, of course, also be significant benefits for full wagons of either type.

This simple solution actually leverages the very air flow that causes the problems in the first place where it typically causes turbulence in low pressure areas that then require significantly more energy to move the wagons, particularly at speed.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
