10045129Creative writing App to support those suffering with poor mental health.ClosedGrant for R&DInnovate UKIntegrity Media Ltd is a niche publishing company that was launched in 2021 to provide a pathway and community for individuals suffering poor mental health to use creative writing as a means to understand, express and grow -- or as we put it 'rediscover, rebuild and relaunch'. 1:4 people in the UK will suffer poor mental health at some point in 2021 (NHS) and 11.6 people per 100 thousand will take their own life. And beyond the human cost, poor mental health annually cost the UK c£45Bn in lost revenues (Deloitte, 2020). Many wellbeing tools and mental health services have evolved to combat the issue, but they struggle to abate the decline due to the insufficient availability of quality resources compared to the demand. Creative writing as a means to support those suffering poor mental health has been under consideration for a while: Writing well: health and the power to make images -- Robinson, Medical Humanities, 2000; Emotional and physical health benefits of expressive writing. Baikie et al, Advances in Psychiatric Treatment, 2005; Rhyme and reason: the relationship between creative writing and mental wellbeing -- Blair, British Journal of Occupational Therapy 1997\. We aim to advance the understanding and performance of such mental health support, through an integrated experiential database and skill development programme. Integrity Media is building a resource and service base to allow individuals to independently recover from poor mental health. A central part of this platform is the Version 1 development of an iOS and android, mobile and tablet based App with three core elements. Under this project the Version 1 App will be tested and launched using Integrity Media's current catalogue.
