Manufacturers now need fluorine-free alternatives that hit performance targets without changing existing lines -- ideally made from circular, locally sourced feedstocks.

Demeter Bio will run a short feasibility project to validate MelioShield, a PFAS-free, bio-based material designed to replace persistent chemicals in coatings application. MelioShield is produced from waste streams, turning a low-value waste into a high-value functional ingredient. The project focuses on three practical steps that help transition from lab to real-world use. The project plan includes material production and optimisation with 20L scale-up simulations, efficacy validation through hydrophobicity testing both in-house and with accredited labs and material data collection.

The project will deliver a concise Feasibility Report summarising methods, results and next steps, along with a materials data sheet and pilot-ready recipes. Together, these outputs will provide clear evidence for customers and investors that MelioShield can offer PFAS-like functionality without fluorine, using a circular, locally sourced feedstock.

This work supports the UK's drive for resource efficiency and supply-chain resilience by replacing persistent chemicals with a biodegradable, bio-based alternative and by building the evidence needed for rapid, low-risk adoption. All activities will be conducted in the UK.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
