Typically, about 40% of the costs comes from mining (as opposed to processing), and of that, 50% - 60% is the cost associated with moving material, usually by truck. There are fleet management systems available from the major equipment vendors but they

* only work with equipment from that vendor, leading to vendor lock-in;
* are expensive;
* require technical skills to install and use; and
* require wireless communications across the mine -- particularly expensive for underground mines.

KMO-Fleet overcomes these disadvantages, targeted particularly at smaller operations.

As a spin out formed from the ICURe programme this will be our first service offering.

We expect to achieve TRL7 having a full system prototype demonstration in the operational environment of surface and underground mines. That will give us meaningful feedback systems and evidence of efficacy to quickly take the innovation to market. It will also give us the reference sites that are essential to selling in an industry where everyone wants "to be first to be second".</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
