With only around 60% of the country's population on-grid and the remaining 85 million people off-grid, the electrification rate falls noticeable behind global standards, some states reporting as low as 19% of households having access to electricity.

Locals struggle from poor-quality power, experiencing an average of only seven hours of electricity daily, forcing them to rely upon fossil fuelled generators making the country a generator-dependant nation.

The removal of fuel subsidies, coupled with a poor power supply, has had a substantial impact on a rising population spending heavily on fuel as the price has multiplied. The mass use of petrol/diesel generators has spread across every part of Nigeria, despite their negative health and climate effects, exposing communities and the environment to harmful emissions.

In particular, 40% of households and most businesses in Nigeria own generators, resulting in a significant economic and social burden. Furthermore, with areas of the world experiencing record temperature rises, cooling has gained paramount importance to counter the impact of climate change. There has already been a soaring global demand for cooling of food and medicines due to population growth and increased urbanisation.

Botanic Energy's feasibility project is to accelerate the development of a clean energy alternative generator with multiple applications for affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity, using solar energy to power a combined energy storage, heater/cooler/ancillary power system (for lighting, fans, phones, devices, etc.) to replace fossil fuelled generators.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
