Volatile anaesthetics are potent greenhouse gases that contribute approximately 5% of the NHS carbon footprint and are specifically targeted as scope 1 emissions as identified by NHS Net Zero Commitment Policy. The project that SageTech is seeking support for is to upscale its waste anaesthetic recovery and purification capabilities. This upscaled processing capacity will enable SageTech to offer the full circular economy model for volatile anaesthetics. The technologies that SageTech has developed are novel in application, or completely innovative. There are no technologies that exist that can match the performance of SageTech's processes in terms of efficiency (resource preservation) and carbon savings.

SageTech launched its award-winning volatile anaesthetic waste capture technology in January 2023, and has seen commercial success in the UK, and significant interest in overseas markets. The upscaled waste anaesthetic recovery and purification processes will support this commercial success for the capture of volatile anaesthetics and in so doing create a model for medicines manufacturing that is sustainable, scalable and insulates the UK from global shocks and supply chain pressures (e.g., in the COVID-19 pandemic).</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
