It is a global problem, that needs a global solution. But the disease appears very gradually and can be hard to detect early. This means people can miss the opportunity to fully benefit from newer treatments focused on slowing disease progression.

The diagnosis of AD requires detection of changes in brain biology and memory function. Blood tests are emerging to assess biology, however physicians still lack accurate tools for detecting changes in cognition and memory. Existing pen and paper/computerised tests can yield false result if patients are anxious or do not understand the instructions.

Cumulus Neuroscience is a world-leading medical technology company based in Belfast that enables biopharma to collect longitudinal, objective real-world data in clinical studies both in the clinic and in the home. Our platform includes a medically approved EEG headset, and tablet-based versions of validated assessments.

Our goal is to expand and help patients and doctors more directly. Last year we teamed up with George Stothart, PhD who invented Fastball: a novel, easy-to-use test that detects small, subtle changes in brain waves associated with memory recall.

This project will allow us to test how well the test works in a large and diverse group of patients across the US and Europe. This will give us the evidence we need to ask regulators to approve it for real-world use, when pharma and device companies are developing new treatments, and then when doctors are prescribing those treatments.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
