The creation of an innovative self-learning environment to digitalise publishers' educational content.</ns2:title><ns2:status>Closed</ns2:status><ns2:grantCategory>GRD Development of Prototype</ns2:grantCategory><ns2:leadFunder>Innovate UK</ns2:leadFunder><ns2:abstractText>Digital textbooks are not being widely adopted in comparison to standard e-books. Students
want more than a print textbook simply transferred to a digital format. The modern student
learns from a variety of sources and has a very disconnected experience. In building our
educational network, we have worked with our 30,000 student members, with our publisher
partners and with our own authors to understand the needs, desires and concerns of all parties.
We believe that self-directed learning is the key to unlocking the digital revolution in
education. We can empower students to leverage the resources and technologies they already
use in their normal lives in an educational setting. Our system will allow students to build
their own learning space – taking sections from publishers’ content, mixing it in with
YouTube videos, Wikipedia notes, their lecturers notes’ and more. They will be able to
discuss their notes with their peers, and share them with each other. Students will take pride in
their work and find ways to learn that meets their needs.
This will be a highly innovative step-change in education.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
