They need to know they will gain sufficient Return on their Investment.
As the relatively new British Standard for accessibility BS 8878 recommends, many website owners could benefit from providing tools that attract and retain the 6m disabled and elderly users who could benefit from personalising their website experience by changing font size, colour, background colour, links and other visual changes. Website owners could also benefit being able to measure the number of disabled people who use their websites, to help in ROI calculations for their investment in accessibility.
We propose to create a prototype MyDisplay-v2 website accessibility personalisation tool which will enable sites to attract this 6m target audience, and measure their success in doing this.
The tool will be based on the experience gained by some of our team in creating the awardwinning,
abandoned BBC MyDisplay proof of concept, but will be built from the ground up, to be a lean tool for easy licensing and incorporation across multiple websites.
We propose to beta-test it with 3 partner websites to examine: the ease & costs of incorporating the tool on the sites, the quality of transformations MyDisplay-v2 can provide for the 3 different types of site, and the qualitative and quantitative benefits of incorporating MyDisplay-v2 on the sites (whether it attracts new disabled and elderly people to use the
website; whether those users feel the user experience of the site using MyDisplay-v2 is superior than without it; whether the analytics provided by the tool on usage of the site by disabled and elderly people are accurate and valuable).
The project will deliver a prototype tool, and evidence of its value to website owners, which we can use to attract licensees to fund its transition into a fully-featured product they can incorporate on their site.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
