There are no training courses available or defined career paths and so predominantly, their expertise is generated by knowledge gained ‘on the job’. Accumulating this experience takes time, mistakes can be made in early professional life, and thus advice can be inconsistent across the sector. A fast, effective and enjoyable method of providing support and training for Agrifood procurement managers is required. Our idea is to develop a simulation game, based on proven expert know-how, which allows the managers to experience representative real-life scenarios and make decisions within a safe environment. Issues such as understanding the market place, anticipating trends, determining the provenance of source, and the importance of supply chain transparency can all be explored. Although there are a number of simulation games available, none delivers this type of training. Our idea, if successful, would therefore result in more efficient and trusted supply chains within sustainable agriculture through the provision of more effective and market-aware corporate buyers.
