automated translation. It aims is to identify and eliminate textual elements in source texts
which pose difficulties for machine translation, leading to unintelligible results in the target
language, without the author requiring knowledge of the target language. Hitherto, translators
are employed to QA texts after machine translation at cost. Lexica aims to bring these costs
down by reducing the need for QA in the first place.
The Lexica software system and methodology will produce texts which are machinetranslation
friendly by helping the writer to eliminate potential obstacles for quality machine
translation. Lexica will identify linguistic hotspots which can lead to mis-translations such as
lexical (e.g. words with more than one meaning), morphological (e.g. same verb endings for
different person/ tense/ number in some languages), grammatical, or a mix of these. As Lexica
finds a hotspot, appropriate guidance messages are displayed indicating to the writer
alternative strategies where these are available in the original and target languages.
With the exponential growth in content owing to the Internet and the need to find new
language markets by SME’s the need for a low cost but reliable translation software tool
which will cope with any language combination required in the future and usable by non
experts has never been so strong.</ns2:abstractText></ns2:project>
