SAXS Studies of Block Copolymer Nanoparticles
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Sheffield
Department Name: Chemistry
Abstract
This PhD project involves the synthesis of a wide range of diblock copolymer nanoparticles via polymerisation-induced self-assembly (PISA) using either RAFT dispersion polymerisation in water, ethanol or n-alkanes, or RAFT aqueous emulsion polymerisation. The resulting nanoparticles will be characterised by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). Particular attention will be paid to characterising the stimulus responsive behaviour of such nanoparticles, where applicable.

| Description | A manuscript has been submitted to Chemical Science that reports a new synthetic route that enables the synthesis of block copolymer vesicles with narrow size distribution directly in aqueous solution. A second manuscript is in preparation that details the synthesis of new thermoresponsive phosphorylcholine-functionalised block copolymer worm gels. |
