Language in bilinguals with Alzheimer's disease

Lead Research Organisation: Bangor University
Department Name: School of Language, Literature and Linguistic

Abstract

The project aims to examine how language is affected in bilinguals with Alzheimer's disease. The supervisory team will support Laura in refining the project further during her MA year. Two proposed experiments test whether there is a meaning deficit or reduced access to meaning - in the two languages. The project thus addresses pertinent questions in the field of Bilingualism. It will also have implications on our understanding of Alzheimer's disease, and ultimately care and treatment. It comes at a time when Wales is aiming to become a dementia friendly nation though the Dementia Action Plan, in which bilingual language provision is central.
