GAUL - Galileo Assist Using eLoran

GAUL will play a key role in helping Europe’s new Galileo satellite system deliver the ultra-precise timing that our future mobile phones and broadcast stations will demand. This GAUL – like Julius Caesar’s - is divided into three parts! First, it partners Galileo with the emerging technology of eLoran to bring timing to mobile phone sites and broadcasting stations; second, it uses eLoran’s ability to penetrate buildings to serve the rapidly-growing numbers of phone sites in places like shopping malls; and finally, it synchronises the two technologies, so eLoran can take over seamlessly, delivering accurate timing and navigation when Galileo is threatened by interference, jamming or solar storms.
