Dark Energy and Perturbations in Einstein-Aether Gravity

Abstract

We review vector-tensor theories of gravity and how they can give rise to dark energy. We see
how, even in a fairly simple model, vector fields can give rise to a period of late time accelerated
expansion in the universe. Starting from a general Lagrangian, which is quadratic in the vector
and has at most 2 derivatives, we analyse the energy-momentum tensor arising from these different
vector-tensor theories. We then study cosmological perturbations in generalized Einstein-Aether
theories and obtain expressions for the perturbed quantities arising from the energy-momentum
tensor. It was then found that a possible asymptotic form of F was that of linear Einstein-Aether.
For this simplified theory, constraints on the coefficients were found.
