Regulatory mechanisms controlling osteocytogenesis during bone growth and development

Imbalance in the processes associated with bone remodelling leads to major musculo-skeletal disorders such as osteoporosis. Bone forming osteoblasts are central to this process but little is known about their developmental fates such as their incorporation into the newly formed bone matrix as osteocytes (osteocytogenesis). This multi-disiplinary project using histomorphometric and cell amd molecular biology techniques will examine the roles of specific genes and proteins in this active and highly regulated process.
