FCDO Economics, Data and Evaluation Fellowship UKRI Policy Fellowship

Abstract

Each fellowship will last up to 18 months to cover:

- a 3-month inception phase for set up activity
- a 12-month placement with the host organisation
- an impact phase lasting up to 3 months

Fellows will co-design projects and activities with their host and produce analysis to inform government decision-making across a range of policy priorities. Fellows will also engage across the host organisation, building effective working relationships and supporting wider knowledge exchange with researchers.

This will be supported through their embedded role within the host organisation, including line management support.

Description Development of highly novel and high impact network science based tool to understand international supply chains from firm level transaction data.

Also novel use of night light data derived from satellite data to map economic impacts of war on Ukrainian regions.
Exploitation Route The FCDO team is embedded in the supply chain project and it will continue post fellowship.

Description I have led two key projects at FCDO (alongside a range of other advisory work). The supply chain project aims to create lasting capability and a tool to better understand international supply chains. FCDO employees have been involved in the project, ensuring long term capability, and various policymakers have engaged with the aim of using the tool to aid economic security and trade decision making. The Ukraine project aims to detect economic impacts and was developed alongside the Ukraine team.
