Mu2e : A proposal to extend the sensitivity to charged lepton flavour violation by 4 orders of magnitude.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Liverpool
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description This award allowed the development of a Stopping Target Monitor for the Mu2e experiment. The detector and readout electronics are now based at the Fermilab site, in preparation for the experimental campaigns.
Exploitation Route The system will be used for particle physics experiments, so primarily for academic and scientific audiences.

PI Contribution The research team have made experimental data available from the Mu2e germanium detectors based at Liverpool to collaborators at Purdue and Boston, for algorithm development. We have also provided expertise to generate user manuals for their operation and input to mechanical designs of collimation systems.
Collaborator Contribution The Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres have provided beam time at no cost at their ELBE facility for experimental tests of the Mu2e detectors. The beam tests are being supported by all other partners during the experiments.
