Abstract

In the context of contemporary fears over the denaturalisation of the child, this research analyses the evolving relationship between children and the environment in the North East.

The research focuses on childhood experience and agency and interrogates changing public policy, local initiatives, and contemporary debates on childhood, play, and the natural environment, whilst advancing an innovative methodology that combines oral testimony with walking interviews and mental maps in three distinct North East working class communities.
